Exploring Monteverde's Cultural Diversity: Day of Cultures.

We are excited to share with you the details of one of our country's celebrations that is also important in our community: the Day of Cultures in Monteverde.

This event, celebrated every October 12, is a unique opportunity to immerse ourselves in the richness and cultural diversity that characterizes our beautiful region.

Why do we celebrate the Day of Cultures?

The objective of this celebration is to exalt the pluricultural and multiethnic character of the Costa Rican people, recognizing the contribution of indigenous, European, African and Asian values to the national identity. In addition, it seeks to remember the historical and cultural ties that link the nations of Latin America.

The Day of Cultures in Monteverde is an opportunity to honor our traditions, share knowledge and strengthen community ties.

In Monteverde there are different organizations, mainly educational but also business, that make this celebration possible.  
This is how community groups are responsible for developing cultural activities to commemorate this day.

Made in Monteverde: This consortium of micro, small and medium-sized companies promotes the cultural and economic diversity of the region through arts, tourism, well-being, lodging and gastronomy.

Monteverde University Center (UNED): Participates in cultural and educational projects, such as the Monteverde Cultural Inventory, mapping the cultural heritage of the region.

University of Costa Rica (UCR): Through programs such as Regional Consortiums, Companies and Cultural Agents (Crea-C), the UCR promotes cultural and sustainable projects in Monteverde.

Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT): Supports the comprehensive management of tourist destinations, including Monteverde, promoting cultural and tourist activities.

What activities can we find on this day of celebration?

Parades and Cultural Presentations: Enjoy colorful parades and presentations where the different communities of Monteverde show their dances, music and traditional costumes.

Fairs and Markets: Visit the fairs and markets where you will find crafts, typical foods and local products. It is the perfect place to support the artisans and entrepreneurs of the region.

Concerts and Musical Events: Music is an essential part of our celebration, with concerts and musical events that include traditional and contemporary genres.

Cultural Talks and Workshops: Participate in talks and workshops about history, culture and traditions developed in different communities by educational organizations in Monteverde.

Activities for Children: The little ones will also have their space, with activities and games designed especially for them, such as craft contests and educational workshops, dance, and more.

Monteverde as a developing tourist area has a wide variety of social and cultural offerings. Various organized groups enthusiastically carry out activities that strengthen the community spirit and give it that village flavor that characterizes the rural area.
